FixAustin.org is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to ending the killing of lost and homeless pets at Austin's municipal animal shelter through the use of empirically proven, cost-effective methods that have already ended shelter killing in other cities.
Currently, the City of Austin kills roughly 12,000 lost and homeless dogs and cats every year. We believe that staggering level of killing is inconsistent with our community's values. It is especially unacceptable when compared with the municipal pounds in cities like Reno, NV, Charlottesville, VA, and Ithaca, NY, which save nearly 90% of all impounded animals. Austin's pound kills roughly half the animals it impounds each and every year.
Unlike most other major animal-welfare groups in town, FixAustin.org does not accept financial or other resources from the City of Austin or Town Lake Animal Center. As a result, FixAustin.org one of the only organizations in town that is able to remain independent and unbiased.
