4/30: Letters to the Editors Against Shelter Relocation
Re: April 19 editorial "Despite voters, Austin-style bickering unleashed."
Austin
voters never voted for the Levander Loop site for the new animal
shelter. The language on the November ballot regarding the bond for the
animal shelter did not state in any way that the bond was to relocate
the shelter to Levander Loop.
Many
of us were very concerned about the wording of the ballot and voted for
the bond based on its language not specifying the site. We were told by
City Manager Toby Futrell and others that an opportunity for public
input would be provided before the location was decided. If the ballot
had been site specific to Levander Loop, I doubt the bond would have
passed.

Re: April 19 editorial "Despite voters, Austin-style bickering unleashed."
I
read with particular puzzlement the editorial regarding the ballot
issue last November to relocate the Town Lake Animal Center. I remember
diligently reading that ballot, and nowhere did the ballot itself
indicate a particular location.
I
think you need to retract that statement as clearly inaccurate.
Further, defending that location is a mistake. East-siders are much
more likely to produce puppies and kittens than to come to TLAC, pay
and adopt.
Sure,
more pickups are made there than any other area — because they are born
over there, not because they are adopting more from that area. I think
you really missed the issue this time.
